Where do you go to get away? Is getting away something you keep promising yourself that you will do but keep delaying. It just may be that you believe physical relocation and added expense are required. Travel is only one way.
It is easily possible and healthy to get away several times a day. There are several ways to accomplish it. Most require very little time and no expense.
1) Turn off your cell phone and put it out of reach. Just breathe and daydream.
2) Skip a meeting that does not really require your attendance. Instead, take a walk and listen to the birds of spring.
3) Put on your sweat pants, make a peanut butter sandwich and watch an episode of Mayberry.
Have you ever heard anyone say that they “really need to get away?” Too many seem to turn to anti-depressants, sleeping pills and alcohol. That is not really getting away.
For me, writing these comments while listening to classic symphonic music takes me away. Getting away is a health-improving frame of mind. Try it!
I get away through writing and playing guitar. Both take me far away without expense except for a little mental effort.

Getting away calls for mental effort with the diffenrence being the need and ability to shut out all the junk that burdens our brains each day.

Music is one way, and reading a good, engrossing book is another. I particularly enjoy non-fiction. Fly fishing used to be my sole way of getting away, but now with wading such a problem, I’m not able to really get into the water the way I’d like. I can really lose myself sometime on my screen porch. Come to think of it, a screen porch might be one of the best ways there is of “getting away.” Thanks for the idea…might just do that tomorrow if it rains. 🙂

One trick is to get away and not have some disruptive person force you to come back before you are ready. I am finding that those who are not happy in their own lives are the most likely to pull that stunt, Avoiding them, sometimes entirely and permanently, is the only way to stop them. You are happy and it shows, Joe.
