Ever Catch Yourself Smiling?

Did you see that? Did it make you smile?

Did you hear that? Did it make you smile?

Those attuned to life around them find themselves spontaneously smiling several times each day. These are people who do not need to be told a joke in order to smile. They don’t need to see a funny video or television show. For them, there is no need to have a reason or an excuse when a smile dances across their face.

I admit to being in this group. Fortunately, so is my wife. We both find a smile on our faces several times a day; we often laugh out loud. Many things bring that smile: the smell of bacon frying, birds calling to each other in the trees, a child on a swing in the park, a song that reminds of us of our high school dances. The list is almost endless.

Then there are the stoics who will tell us they have “nothing to smile about”.  Stoics seem uninterested in anything that occurs around them. They make a point of showing no passion or feeling. They seem to be above it all; judging others as they demonstrate their self-control and indifference. How can they live like that? How could they be more wrong?

Here is a suggestion. Make a list today of how many times you catch yourself smiling.  Remember, a smile on your face means a smile is in your heart. If for no other reason, smile because it is good for your heart.

  1. Reading your blog post always brings a smile to my face (not as broad as those elicited by my granddaughter, mind you). 🙂
