Regrets in life come in two types. There are those regrets we have about the past and regret yet to be experienced.
Each of us regards some things we have done in the past with regret. Regrets about the past cannot be undone and will remain with us. The good news is that our action or inaction that produced past regret need not be repeated. We can learn from them and hold fast the next time.
But what of our future regrets? Can we predict them and prevent having many serious regrets in the future? The answer is that we can. The action we take can reduce their frequency and impact.
Here is a suggestion. Make a short list of those things likely to result in serious and lingering regrets if they are not attended to before it is too late. Then set out to eliminate them while there is still time.
Here is an example of just one of those. I regret having failed to tell _______________ that I love them before she/he died. Please, start your short list and act today.
Like many of my essays, this one is a reminder written to myself and shared with you.
