A sign on the wall in the rest room of my local coffee shop says, “Gentlemen, put the seat down.” There is no matching sign that says, “Ladies, put the seat up.” We are told that men and women are to be treated equally. The existence of this sign suggests a bias favoring women.
A large cup of dark roast does not stay with me for long. I always use the restroom at the coffee shop before heading for the car. On my next visit, I intend to take a stand before leaving. I mean a stand about the position of the toilet seat. I plan to leave the seat up.
Lately, my wife has begun to insist that, at home, I put the seat and the lid down. The only reason for even having a lid on the toilet is to keep the dog from taking a drink. We don’t even have a dog. The lid also stays up. Call me a rebel. Men, are you with me?
I had a friend who hung a sign above the guest toilet that read “We aim to please, you aim too, please!” That pretty much sums up my position. 🙂
