Do you have regrets about things that happened or failed to happen in your life? Of course you do; everyone does.
There are times when those regrets appear out of nowhere and spoil an otherwise happy day. The question is what you should do when these regrets pop up.
There is an almost endless array of things you can carry through life on your personal regrets list: love loss, job loss, failure to graduate, abuse of alcohol, drugs or cigarettes, obesity, failing a friend in need or living in constant fear.
There is one thing that is true of past regrets; they are in the past and nothing can be done to erase them from the history of your life. Our past regrets can help us to make better choices in the future. However, there is no going back to undo the original choice.
Here is a suggestion. Write a list of your regrets. Take that list outside and strike a match. Watch that list burn and be done with your past regrets. Move on and enjoy the time you have left to live. Your family and friends will see the difference in you.
Personal Note: Though I have things to work on in my life, being haunted by regrets about the past is no one of them. I offer my brief essay in an attempt to help others find peace.
I’ve never been one for regrets. The only regrets I’ve ever had were if I had not been as nice to someone as I ought to have been. Those regrets always linger. Otherwise I have NO regrets. 🙂
