Once every few years I have my hearing tested by a well qualified audiologist. Last tested in 2014, I recently returned for another test.
The test results brought good news. My hearing is largely the same as it was in 2014. There has been a slight loss at the high pitch end of the scale in my right ear. My tinnitus is still with me and always will be. The results were normal given my age. No hearing aids were suggested.
That same appointment also brought some bad news. My loving wife phoned the audiologist to request my test results. She learned what I had been told. My hearing is fine. Now she knows that when I answer her comments with a “what,” my hearing is fine but my listening is suspect.
Comment on Hearing Testing: I do believe that occasional hearing tests conducted by a qualified audiologist are the right thing to do. Friends and family members have been encouraged to spend hundreds and even thousands on hearing aids that did not deliver the results promised and may not have even been needed.
