Are People Like Lemmings?

What do you know about the small, short-tailed moles called lemmings? Most know little. However, we all know that lemmings collect on seaside cliffs and commit collective suicide by jumping into the sea where they drown by the thousands. Guess what. They do not do that.

Quoting from the link below:

“In 1958 Walt Disney produced “White Wilderness,” part of the studio’s “True Life Adventure” series. “White Wilderness” featured a segment on lemmings, detailing their strange compulsion to commit mass suicide.

According to a 1983 investigation by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation producer Brian Vallee, the lemming scenes were fake. The lemmings, supposedly committing mass suicide by leaping into the ocean, were actually thrown off a cliff by the Disney filmmakers.”

All around us today, self-serving zealots recruit people to their cause. Those recruits become completely committed. As there are two sides to every cause, a chasm develops, and whole groups of people rush to one side or the other and end up getting pushed over the cliff.

Examples? Please fill in the blank with a couple of issues that are deeply dividing us.
